BlackBerry’s back! Well, sort of. And in a good way, thanks to a leak that showed a new upcoming handset called the Argon, now going by the model number DTEK60. Unfortunately for the company, the leak was because of their own undoing.
The BlackBerry website had published a page regarding the new Android-based phone. A page titled specifications-a-donotpublish.html. It spoke of the specs, pricing and availability of the handset. Come on, BlackBerry. Get it together!
BlackBerry leaks the specs for upcoming DTEK60 smartphone
Judging by the model number, it’s a successor to the DTEK50, with a bigger touchscreen display and a better processing package. BlackBerry wants to make this device a high-end top-of-the-line smartphone. And it shows in the specs, with a quad HD display at 5.5-inches, a snappy Snapdragon 820 64-bit Quad core chipset coupled with an Adreno 530 GPU. It’ll have 32 GB of internal storage and 4 GB of RAM. It’s taking cues from the latest flagships by including a USB Type-C enabled with Quick-Charge 3.0. It comes with 21-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera. It’ll have its own fingerprint sensor and also a ‘Convenience Key’ that could be a toggle switch of some sort, perhaps?
Unfortunately, the best thing about BlackBerry is missing – a physical keyboard, but they are making up for it later on this year with the release of the ‘Rome,’ that could also be leaked in the near future if they’re not careful again. For now, the DTEK60 will have to do and it’s a departure from the existing range of BlackBerry phones that are uninteresting, underpowered and un-BlackBerry. With such specs, this new model will be expected to go neck and neck with the industry’s finest. Only the software will be a factor to tip the balance the issue in BlackBerry’s favour.
It’ll be stocked with Marshmallow 6.0 unchanged with BlackBerry’s proprietary productivity suite and security software. BlackBerry is struggling in the market to come up with something big. Times have changed for the ex-giant in the smartphone category and now it’s looking to bring back its name. The DTEK60 is a good way to start out, but eventually, it’ll be the same offering as every other flagship out there, so only the loyalists and the believers would really want in on the BlackBerry action. Perhaps some pioneering is what is needed about now. It will take some time for BlackBerry to get back on its feet again, until their next big launch.
