BlackBerry fans in Indonesia are in for a treat. The Canadian enterprise has launched a new smartphone dubbed BlackBerry Aurora.
Coming right on the heels of its recent KEYone announcement at the Mobile World Congress, the Aurora is touted to be the first BlackBerry device equipped with dual-SIM capability.
Not only that, it is also the first device that is being produced in Indonesia. The device is priced at IDR 3.499 million ($261). Pre-orders are already open, with delivery scheduled for March 16.
“Our customers in Indonesia are very important to BlackBerry, and as we focus on software innovation, we are very excited about our partnership with BB Merah Putih to deliver high-quality devices with the BlackBerry security DNA,” a senior vice president at the company, Alex Thurber, said in a statement.
While TCL holds the license for making the BlackBerry smartphones, in Indonesia it would be the BB Merah Puth that will be developing and selling the phones.
So what are the specs this device comes equipped with? To start with the screen, you have a 5.5-inch 720p display. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor, the hardware also includes a 4GB RAM and 32GB storage.
Power is drawn by a 3,000 mAh battery. As for the operating system, the device will run Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. There will be three color choices – black, silver, and gold.
As mentioned earlier, the major highlight of the phone is its dual-SIM functionality. With all the recent smartphones adding that, it would only seem fair for BlackBerry to join the bandwagon.
Just last month, BlackBerry unveiled the KEYone at the MWC tech expo in Barcelona. It was a 4.5-inch full HD display phone that had a Snapdragon 625 processor, 3GB RAM and 32GB expandable storage. The camera department included a 12MP rear sensor with aperture of f2.0 and an 8MP front shooter for selfies.
