DICE has come out with more information on Battlefield 1’s Sinai Desert map. Interestingly, you can get your hands on it during World War I shooter’s beta in the coming week.
“In the Middle East, Allied forces battled the Ottoman Empire in the Sinai Campaign for control of the Suez Canal. This served as the inspiration for Sinai Desert, one of the biggest Conquest levels in Battlefield 1,” DICE explained in a recent blog post, giving a little background to the game.

DICE further added that Sinai Desert happens to be one of the Battlefield 1’s largest Conquest maps and that it would offer a “diverse gameplay experience”, giving a number of options for players to choose from. Some of the features of the map include planes to fly, horses to ride, tanks to drive and other exciting additions like shooting from the rooftops, streets and alleys.
Sinai Desert has the armored train ‘behemoth’ vehicle that could prove to be a super-effective, only if used properly. Its one side can be used to turn the tables of the battle.
“The train offers a range of weapons and can make a huge difference if used effectively. This means the opposing team will need to adjust to the new presence. Bomber planes are pretty effective if their pilots’ aim stays true, though the train is also susceptible to a surprise attack by an organized group on horseback armed with anti-vehicle grenades. But as you might expect, the armored train won’t go down without a fight,” stated the game’s developer.
A range of weather effects can also be experienced in Sinai Desert, like “the occasional sandstorm,” and the strong winds which can affect the gameplay. Apparently, all the Battlefield 1 maps will have weather effects.
While giving options for ground-based combat, Sinai Desert also plays fair with pilots. DICE stated, “One of the flags can be even be taken by plane if you have the skills to safely fly inside the capture zone– you’ll want to make sure to disable the Anti-Aircraft on the ground first, though, as someone could be lurking around on the ground just waiting for you to fly in.”
“If you’re more interested in dogfights, there’s plenty of interesting opportunities for that, too. Some of us at DICE have gotten pretty good at ditching would-be attackers by flying through the canyon without crashing. It’s tense, but provides the type of Only in Battlefield moments we know you love.”
For Xbox 1, PlayStation 4 and PC, the Battlefield 1 beta commences on August 31. While it is being speculated that Battlefield Insiders will get to play early, there is no official word on when they can begin. The official release will be on October 21.
