Asus shows off world’s thinnest convertible, the ZenBook Flip S

At the Computex 2017 in Taipei, Taiwan, Asus had a number of launches lined up. However, it was the ZenBook Flip S that garnered the world’s attention. Asus is claiming it to be the world’s thinnest convertible laptop.

The Asus ZenBook Flip S is an ultra-thin and ultra-light convertible that is elegantly crafted and weighs just 1.1kg. It is is also 10.9mm thin and is made from premium, aerospace-grade aluminum.

Besides the stunning design, users also get a sturdy hardware with 2.7-GHz Intel Core i7-7500U CPU, 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of SSD storage.

The 13.3-inch screen with an ultra-narrow 6.11mm bezels features a 4K UHD display and is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass, which makes it 10x more resistant to drop-damage. The 39Wh lithium-polymer battery in the ZenBook Flip S promises close to 11.5-hour battery life. It makes best use of the fast charge technology to charge the convertible to 60% in 49 minutes.

While it has become trend for convertibles to reduce the ports, on ZenBook Flip S Asus has decided to keep two USB-C ports that support 4K external displays and a mini-dock supporting HDMI, USB 3.1 and USB C.

The Flip S runs Windows 10 S and is equipped with fingerprint sensor for secure logins. It boasts a highly-accurate touchpad with smart gesture support and an ergonomic backlit keyboard.

As technology expands, more and more creative professionals and artists are using digital pens. Asus has ensured its 2-in-1 will also support a stylus and Windows Ink. The Asus Pen has a slim and elegant aluminium design and offers 1,024 degrees of pressure sensitivity.

Another important highlight of the ZenBook Flip S is the 360° ErgoLift hinge mechanism that has a unibody design with precision-engineered gears. The hinge was tested with over 20,000 open and close cycles.

The Asus ZenBook Flip S would go on sale with a price tag starting at $1099. At the launch on May 29, Asus also showed off new ZenBook Pro and a number of updates to its affordable VivoBook laptops.
