Apple is working on a MacBook with cellular connectivity?

The MacBook is about to become cellular, if Apple’s patent filing is to be believed. How soon will it materialize is yet to be seen however, but Apple seems intent on making it.

Is Apple working on a cellular Macbook?

Is Apple working on a cellular Macbook?

It will have LTE connectivity so that the computer can be used on the go, much like its iPad or iPhone or well, the Microsoft Surface! Earlier, Apple did actually go ahead and start their design for the new cellular MacBook but due to certain reasons best known to them, they stopped working on it and the project became abandoned.

Maybe because Microsoft is making some good money on to their Surface line, Apple wants in on that cellular action. As per their patent application, Apple has shown that they are interested in an always-on cellular connectivity for their cellular MacBook via high-speed mobile connectors indicated in their patenting documents. It’ll also be compatible with most MacBook applications.

This means, browsing the web, telephony, email, media playback and VoIP applications will be available on this new device. This is probably the first time that Apple is seeking inspiration to make a product that already exists in the market. The iPad and the MacBook were pioneering in their own right, making those two platforms as popular as they are now.

Since portability and communication is the prime purpose for those heading outside, Apple probably will find it important for there to be a middle ground between the iPad and the MacBook. But what matters is how Apple will set this device apart from what is in the market.

We can’t really expect there to be any major leaks or announcement about a device that Apple is currently working on. They may not even currently be working on it. But this patent shows that they will at some point in the future, be bringing it to the world.

After removing the charging port, the headphone jack, and completely redesigning how tablets, desktops, laptops and mobiles are designed, Apple could make another big dent in the cellular computer segment with its revolutionary dynamics.
