Apple iPhone 7 release official; Sept 7 event could include iPad, Watch

Rumours aside, there is official announcement on possible Apple iPhone 7’s launch.

On Monday, Apple confirmed to media that it would host a product launch event on September 7 at 10:00 a.m. PDT at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, San Francisco. The message on the invitation reads – “See you on the 7th”.

The launch date is very close to the Sept. 9 date the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus was unveiled last year.

September has been Apple’s favourite month for unveiling of iPhones. Reports say the upcoming event could also include the launch of a new iPad and Watch 2 series.

Buzz on the features have been making rounds for a while now. If rumours are to be believed, iPhone 7 will feature a Sapphire glass instead of Corning’s Gorilla glass; button-less design; wireless charging; storage of up to 256 GB ; M10 co-processor; and a battery larger than the previous model (iPhone 6s).

The new smartphone may come in additional colors, and may feature a second rear camera sensor for low light shooting. As for the possible models, Apple could continue with two model lineup in the form of the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 and the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus

There have also been whispers on Apple doing away with the headphone jack. If the California-based tech giant ditch the 3.5 mm headphone jack, it will sure make the device slimmer, but will incur the wrath of many loyal fans.

In an interview earlier, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak warned against eliminating the headphone jack, saying it would “tick off a lot of people”. Reports speculate that Apple will have a new design for its earbuds that would connect wirelessly to the device.

It is believed that both the iPhones will be put up for pre-order, two days after the launch on September 9.

Apple has sold more than 1 billion iPhones since the launch of the first iPhone in 2007. Last year, the company sold more than 214m iPhones. However, sales have fallen moderately during the previous two quarters. The upcoming launch could bring back the momentum.
