Android 7.1 Developer Preview released for Nexus line up devices

Even as Google’s new Pixel devices are arriving at stores today, the search giant has published the Android 7.1 Developer Preview files for the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, and Pixel C.

The Developer Preview can be downloaded by enrolling in the Android Beta Program or by flashing the OTA manually. Google said it hopes through the release it can “tease out any device-specific issues”.

The current 7.1.1 preview arrives as build NPF10C.

This is the same software available on new Pixel and Pixel XL devices. If you are not a developer, you can still try Android 7.1 before the stable release. However, bear in mind that the Developer Preview is still in beta and could have a number of bugs. The final version is expected to be released in December.

The Developer Preview boasts new features such as application shortcuts and image keyboard support, besides updated SDK and tools, documentation and samples, and emulators.

Though initially available on Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, and Pixel C devices, Google said in a blog post it will be extended to other devices in November.
