Amazon is most likely going to be releasing its own brand of security cameras that will be tied to Alexa. This comes in light of an image that was released, showing a product with a camera and a few sensors surrounding the camera.
The design of the product looks a lot like Alexa’s, with a white exterior and a pivoting base. The sensors that are surrounding the camera could be infrared sensors for probably gauging movement. While there is no shortage of security cameras that are compatible with Amazon’s Alexa, it seems like the company wants to create a more complete eco-system of its products. Much like the competition out there, we are expecting this product to also store data on the cloud through a subscription service, as mentioned by The Verge.
The Amazon camera could probably be closely associated with the Echo line-up and expand upon the company’s future breadth of smart-home systems. This can be identified because of the signature blue-ring that surrounds the camera hole of the device. However, this image could well be just a concept or a mock-up for a future unplanned product as well. None of these details can be confirmed yet.
The Echo has been a popular product for Amazon and it is about time that the company decided to build on its independent platform. According to Pocket-Lint, the leaked image was already found on Amazon’s website the first time, so it isn’t impossible to imagine that the company is actively pursuing such a venture. AFTVnews were the first to discover the leaked image and that is where the speculation had begun. Alexa powers almost every home device nowadays, so it seems pretty fair that it be integrated in Amazon’s on homebrewed security cameras as well.
This provides some good ideas as to how this product can integrate with other Amazon products like the Dot and the Tap, and if possible, other third-party devices as well. And it doesn’t seem like users would want to go away from the Amazon product line any time soon, so once it does get released, it will see a lot of interested buyers.
It is somehow reminiscent of those robots from the Portal game. Perhaps a source of inspiration for the company.
