Samsung has filed a new patent for a secondary display on smartwatches. A drawing reveals the display to be located around the rim of the timepiece.
The patent, filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), is accompanied by images that divulge the display and its intended use. It was first spotted by Patently Apple.
If the secondary display makes it to Samsung’s smartwatches, it would serve the purpose of providing notifications and related information. No other details are revealed through the filing.
Just last week, Samsung unveiled three new Gear S3 concept models at the Baselworld event. Currently, the smartwatch is available in two editions – Frontier and Classic.
The new concepts, built in collaboration with Swiss-based watch designer Yvan Arpa, is crafted with premium materials and is reported to be an “updated take” on the original Gear S3. The Gear S3 takes “convenience, style and innovation to the next level” commented Samsung’s Younghee Lee.
At the Baselworld, Samsung did not reveal any design to do with the patent discovered. More clarity on the same should arise in the coming weeks. We will follow the developments to keep you posted as and when more details emerge.
