If you recollect, Samsung launched a rugged smartphone dubbed the Galaxy Xcover 3 in 2015. Now, it appears Samsung is bringing an upgrade to the device with the latest operating system.
In terms of ruggedness, Galaxy Xcover 3 came with IP67 rating and MIL-STD 810G certification
When the Galaxy Xcover 3 launched, it featured a 4.5-inch screen with 480x800p resolution and a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB RAM and 8GB internal storage. It was marketed as a rugged smartphone that carried IP67 rating and MIL-STD 810G certification.
The phone could operate even when submerged in 1-metre of water for up to 30 minutes. It ran Android 4.4 (KitKat) and was powered by a 2,200mAh battery.
What the model number indicates
Forthwith you might have a more rugged phone with better hardware. A new Galaxy-branded device was spotted on Wi-Fi Alliance’s database. It carried the model number SM-G390F.
The model number is what gives an indication on the unannounced device. When Galaxy Xcover 3 launched it had the SM-G388F representation. Later Samsung launched the Galaxy Xcover 3 (Value Edition) that had the model number SM-G389F.
We don’t have any official confirmation or specifics to expect on the Xcover 4. The listing on Wi-Fi Alliance only reveals it will support Wi-Fi Direct and run Android 7.0 Nougat. With the device having received the Wi-Fi certification, you can soon expect it to come on benchmarking sites. That should probably give us an idea on the innards.
