There are more than 20 million students using Chromebooks around the world, according to a Google report.
On World Teachers’ Day, Rajen Sheth, senior director of product management for Android and Chrome for business and education at Google, shared how the search giant was making a difference in the education landscape.
Chromebooks are optimized for Google’s apps, such as Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Drive
“Today more than 20 million students worldwide are using Chromebooks to create, collaborate and communicate,” Sheth wrote.
Chromebook is a low-cost laptop running on Google’s web-based Chrome operating system. Designed for use when connected to wireless Internet, Chromebooks offer regular automatic updates and multiple layers of security.
Besides data on Chromebooks, Google revealed that its learning platform for schools have also crossed the same figure as Chromebooks. There are apparently more than 20 million teachers and students using Google Classroom.
Google said from collecting assignments to staying in touch with guardians, teachers around the world are using Classroom to “stay organized and save time”. The platform, launched in 2014, is part of Google Apps for Education suite. Classroom uses Google Docs, Drive and Gmail to help teachers create and collect assignments effortlessly.
To coincide with World Teachers Day, Google also announced the upcoming Education on Air conference to celebrate educators around the world and allow teachers to learn from each other.
The first Education on Air conference last year saw more than 50,000 participants from different countries. This year, the keynote speakers will include Julia Gillard, Linda Darling Hammond, Professor Robert Winston and Jennie Magiera. The December 3-4 event will combine hundreds of sessions to choose from.
