The ultimate Amazon ‘Launchpad’ that startups in India need

Amazon’s platform for startups to showcase and sell their products has been brought to India. The Amazon Launchpad was made official today and is already available in US, UK, China, among other markets.

In India, Amazon has partnered with DIPP’s (Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion) Start Up India initiative, Nasscom 10,000 startups and Indian Angel Network, to connect with startups and small enterprises.

First introduced in 2015, Launchpad has helped many startups market and promote their products around the world. It has reportedly helped over 1,200 startups launch products globally.

Indian startups that Amazon India is working with include Witworks, Leaf Wearables and Ducere Technologies, to name a few. There are over 25 Indian startups listed, besides over 400 products from food to wearables.

“Amazon Launchpad is an exceptional opportunity for Indian Startups to get access to big consumer markets nationally and internationally,” said Jason Feldman, Director Global Innovations Amazon. “Through this program small entrepreneurs and innovators can go leverage the Amazon platform to increase the scale of their businesses and even get easy access to global markets.”

The platform is available for entrepreneurs and startups for a fee of Rs 5,000 a month. Categories listed on Launchpad include Baby, Beauty, Fashion, Grocery, Computers, Mobile & Wearable Tech, Wireless Accessories, Kitchen and Home & Furniture.

Electronic gadgets appear to be the one category that has more items. To list some of the top products are the flagship smartwatch from Blink, the solar light sand panels from d.light and the wearable smart jewellery from Safer.

“Amazon has always encouraged and supported innovation. By bringing Amazon Launchpad to India, we are excited to support the Government’s ‘Start-up India’ initiative and encourage innovation from the Indian start-up community,” Amazon India Country Head Amit Agarwal said in a statement.
