This month Microsoft had two Surface events planned. While, the first was targeting the education market with the release of Surface Laptop with Windows 10 S, the upcoming one could see the release of Surface Pro 5.
More than a year and half later Microsoft is bringing a successor to the Surface Pro 4
Microsoft has made public the dates for the event which is to take place on May 23 in Shanghai. “Microsoft will show the world what’s next,” the software giant states in a note on the website, without revealing details on the launch.
Panos Panay, Corporate Vice-President of Devices at Microsoft and Surface creator, has also confirmed his presence for the event. “As Panay’s presence is almost synonymous with the launch of Surface devices, there is a slight chance that Microsoft might be gearing to launch Surface Pro 5 tablet at the event,” an NDTV report noted.
The Surface Pro 5 will be the successor to Surface Pro 4 which Microsoft launched back in October 2015. The upgrade is rightly timed and will be enticing to potential buyers.
The specs of the Surface Pro 5 had earlier leaked online giving us an insight into the hardware. The laptop is expected to come equipped with latest 14nm Intel Kaby Lake processors with multiple storage options. It will also reportedly have 2K resolution display, USB Type-C and a 16 GB RAM.
Earlier this week, Microsoft announced its Windows 10 S, an operating system designed specifically for classrooms. The same day it also unveiled the Microsoft Surface Laptop with Windows 10 S. The device costs $999 and will feature a 13.5-inch diagonal PixelSense display with 3:2 aspect ratio, powered by Core i5 and i7 processors. Microsoft claims that the Surface Laptop is thinner and lighter than any MacBook Air or Pro.
