Samsung to officially launch IconX earbuds and Gear Sport smartwatch on October 27

Samsung has officially provided release dates for its recently teased Samsung Gear Sport smartwatch and its newest addition to the Icon X line of earbuds. The company had unveiled a small teaser video only recently of the Gear Sport, leaving us to guess when we will see it in the flesh. The company has finally dished out the details and the two devices will be available no later than the end of this month.

Gear Sport smart watch

The $300 Gear Sport smartwatch will be available in blue and black colors, starting October 27 via Samsung’s official website, Amazon, Best Buy, Macy’s and through certain cellular services. The wearable will feature a 1.2-inch AMOLED display, with a built-in GPS and will also be waterproof up to 50 metres with the ability to track swimming times along with the wearer’s heart rate as well.

The device will come with 4GB of internal storage, which should be perfect for users to store their Spotify playlists in offline mode and can leave their phones at home while they are working out. The Gear Sport will be compatible with almost every smartphone, including those running on iOS as well. The Gear Sport promises durability and better independence from a smartphone to its users.

Pre-orders for both the devices will begin today. The $200 IconX buds aim at being a solid competitor to the Apple AirPods and this time around, promise lighter and more comfortable build than the out-going model. The battery life has also been given an extension as well. The cord-free earbuds will be the company’s second generation in the line-up. The buds also come with 4GB of internal storage which the company claims can store up to 1,000 songs on the go. Of course, users will also be able to make phone calls and they will be able to charge through the proprietary charging case as well.

Keeping with the active lifestyle for its wearables, Samsung has also installed a fitness coach into the earbuds in order to track running routines. If connected to the Galaxy S8, S8 Plus and Note 8, users will be able to control Bixby’s AI features as well.

The earbuds will be able to provide up to five hours of battery life on a single charge. With Google and Apple already offering unique earbuds in their own line-ups, Samsung will be looking to offer something that is more suited to the active lifestyle. We will know whether the company’s tactic will work once the two devices are launched.
