Origin EON15-S is a budget gaming laptop: Know the features, specs & price

Origin is one of the most premium gaming PC companies out there, with their computers and laptops costing upwards of $1,700 at least. But, considering the current climate for performance and gaming in the laptop segment, Origin have made a beauty of a laptop, at a beauty of a price.

The EON15-S gaming laptop starts at only $999 in the US. Under the hood, it comes with the NVIDIA GTX1050Ti graphics card along with an Intel i3 7100H processor. These aren’t immediately the best specs, but for a premium and boutique gaming brand like Origin, it seems like the company wants its devices to be a lot more accessible to its user base. The laptop will also feature a 1080p IPS screen at 15.6-inches. For $100 more, users will be able to upgrade to an i5 variant also double their storage capacity as well.

The Origin is priced only about $100-$200 higher than the Dell Inspiron 15 7000, which is one of the best budget gaming laptops out there. With that added money comes the performance and the quality of customer support that Origin is known for. As far as its upgradability goes, the EON15-S can be upgraded with up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM, a massive 6TB of storage and can also come with a battery unit that can offer about 6 hours of battery life. Being an Origin offering, the laptop comes with crisp, clean aesthetic elements, that are not cheap and are pretty distinct. We still feel that when it comes to looks, Razer’s stealthier design is just a lot more appealing.

According to a report by PC World, the laptop does not compromise on size as well, keeping the same quality that Origin is known for, well intact, with the thickness topping at about an inch and weighing at just five pounds. Much like Dell’s Inspiron or Lenovo’s new cheaper gaming offerings, Origin does not skimp out on materials and tech to fit its laptop with the best possible hardware available.

One of the USPs of a device like this is its customizability. It already comes with an RGB backlit keyboard and a custom paint job to the body. From hardware to aesthetics, there is almost no limit to how well a user can customize their new Origin EON15-S. This is something a lot of gaming-centric brands still do not offer. They even have all the ports covered as far i/o goes with a USB Type-C, two USB 3.0 ports and a single USB 2.0 port.

It seems like brands like Razer and Sager will need to adopt a new kind of strategy when negotiating their entry-level products. The customization options itself will be enough to bridge the gap between cheap and expensive gaming laptops without sacrificing a capable GPU, but merely altering the supporting hardware. At FHD, the GTX1050Ti is a great match for any spec. Origin is definitely doing something right.
