Nokia were not kidding when they promised the latest updates for their newest smartphones. It seems that the company, now owned by HMD Global will be pushing the latest Android update to the Nokia 8 flagships smartphone and will be the first Nokia smartphone to do so.
A listing on Geekbench mentioned the existence of Android Oreo 8.0 on the new Nokia 8. This ties in with the existing layout that Nokia has carved out for its smartphones as they all feature near-stock Android versions of Android Nougat 7.0. This would make the updating process a lot smoother and less troublesome as there would not need to be much to customize on the software. Not only will the Nokia 8 receive the update but so will all the other smartphones which have been released so far by the company.
From the Geekbench score it can be seen that the performance of the Nokia 8 after the update from the single core test is 1927 and it scored 6607 on the multi-core test. The upload date of the test scores also seem to have been published just yesterday, meaning that Nokia will most likely pushing the Android Oreo 8.0 update across its smartphones in the coming weeks hopefully.
The Nokia 8 was launched with Android Nougat 7.1.1 out of the box and despite the supposed leak of the Geekbench scores, it does not necessarily prove that Android Oreo will be making its way to Nokia’s flagship. It is assuring that HMD’s Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas guaranteed the Android Oreo update to all Nokia smartphones running Android.
The Nokia 8 does not have any specific features that would set the phone apart from the competition, but the simplicity and the usability are considered as the company’s primary USPs. Powering the device will be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage that is expandable. There is also a 3,090mAh battery unit with Quick Charge 3.0 support, courtesy of Qualcomm. The phone’s build is also water resistant up to IP54 certification. Connectivity-wise, the phone offers USB Type-C, a 3.5mm audio jack, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0. Being an international phone, it also comes with dual-SIM card trays in select markets.
While the phone was first announced with a price of 599 Euros, it will be on par with the rest of the other flagships that have cropped up this past year. While it may not be the most innovative phone by Nokia, it is quite far away from being mediocre as far as performance and experience is concerned
