Nokia’s flagship 8 has finally been revealed in India. With the company having only launched mid-range handsets the whole year, this new release will put the company’s offering on par with the best flagships currently available.
The Nokia 8 will be available for a price of INR 36,999 ($563), which puts the device in direct competition with the OnePlus 5. The Nokia 8 is now available at all leading retail outlets and will also be exclusively available from Amazon online. Starting October 14. The phone’s specifications are quite impressive and should give fans a long-overdue performance boost that many have been yearning for since Nokia’s revival by HMD Global.
Among the highlights of the phone is the display, which is a 5.30-inch 2560×1440 resolution IPS LCD under curved corning Gorilla Glass 5. While Nokia did skip on the AMOLED display, the high-resolution and IPS qualities of the new screen make for more realistic colours and better brightness.
The phone’s design is not as new as other devices that have been launched in the recent past. It takes a more traditional approach and offers no bezel-less screens. Instead, Nokia have made a sturdy build composed of a 6000 series aluminium unibody design with a polished high-gloss surface, depending on the color that it is bought in.
The phone is somewhat reminiscent of the Lumia handsets released in the past in terms of design and physical usability. Nokia has smartly provided capacitive keys below the display, with a centre Home button that also acts as the fingerprint sensor. It is nothing new, but Nokia plays to its strengths in simplicity here, while other manufacturers like Samsung and Apple are still trying to redefine biometric unlocking.
The phone boasts the most powerful Snapdragon chipset available right now – the Snapdragon 835, paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage expandable via microSD card up to 256GB. Powering everything is the 3,040mAh battery unit with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge built in as well.
What further makes the phone fly, is its almost stock Android interface, which is devoid of bloat other symptoms that normally are attributed to flagships. This phone will also be the first phone to come in the line-up to come with ZEISS which comes in collaboration with OZO spatial 360-degree audio and real-time live-streaming using ‘Dual-Sight’ mode. Speaking of the camera, the phone will feature 13MP + 13MP rear cameras with an aperture of f/2.0 and Phase Detection Auto Focus, IR range finder as well as dual-tone flash. The selfie camera is also a 13MP sensor which comes with PDAF as well as an f/2.0 aperture.
At a promising price with the simplicity that Nokia is known for, this could phone could well be one of the under-dogs of the year.
