New Fossil Q Control Smartwatch is the company’s first with GPS at the same cost as its siblings

This year, Fossil has already launched two watches under the Q series, with the Q Explorist and the Q Venture. Now, the company is set to release the next in-line to receive the Q badge, and also one with a series-first feature, called the Q Control.

The Q Control is a swim-proof smartwatch and takes on a more active demeanor than the other smartwatches under Fossil’s portfolio, which are usually either casual or formal smartwatches. This watch will be the first smartwatch from the company which is GPS enabled. The new watch comes with Android Wear 2.0 and a round watch-face. With so many smartwatches nowadays coming with a breadth of features that are more active-oriented, Fossil will do well to add a robust offering that ticks all the right boxes for users who are looking to break a sweat.

Coming to the core features, the Q Control will be powered by the Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset. Its watch-face has as 45mm diameter. For customization, the watch straps are standard 20mm silicone straps which are removable and compatible with other watch straps as well. The watch packs 768MB of RAM and comes with internal storage of 4GB. The also has a 5 ATM water resistance rating, perfect for swimmers. The watch can be paired with a smartphone with Android 4.3 or higher or iOS 9 and higher. While watch can connect through Bluetooth 4.1, there is no Wi-Fi on-board, unfortunately.

One of the most defining features of the smartwatch is its touch sensitive bezel, which allows for navigation and extends the functions of the touch-screen to the frame. It is a new way of making use of the bezels, wherein other watches, the bezels are usually rotatable. Taking advantage of the heart-rate sensor and other hardware on the smart watch, is the device’s primary fitness app – Goggle Fit. While it is the fitness app of choice by the company, users will also be able to download other fitness apps as well. Even the watch’s dials can be changed to a number of options.

While the design of the watch is not anything ground-breaking, the watch is more innovative than the run of the mill active smart watches available right now. The promising offering will be available in the US and UK for $275 and 279 Pounds respectively. With a price that is the same as the other offerings in the Q series, but with more features, there is a lot of value to be gained from the Q Control.
