Moto E4 and E4 Plus are official: Will aim to be the most value for money phones this year

Motorola has finally made their super economical smartphones, the new E series, official. The Moto E4 and the Moto E4 Plus respectively are the newest additions to the company’s E line-up and feature quite a few notable improvements such as better build and improved internals over previous generations.

Moto E4

Both variants of the E4 and the E4 Plus will feature Android Nougat out of the box and will have a unique metal unibody design. The Moto E4 will be the base model of the two, packing a 5-inch HD display with the option of a Snapdragon 425/427 as the SoC. The E4 will come with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board storage which will be expandable via microSD. On the back of the phone is an 8MP sensor with an aperture of f/2.2. At the front, it features a 5MP camera as well for selfies. Powering the phone is a 2800mAh battery, which should be enough for the phone to run on for the whole day. The phone will also be available in a variant that will come with the MediaTek MT6737 which will be available outside of North America.

Moto E4 Plus

Compared to the E4, the E4 Plus will feature a bigger 5.5-inch screen with the same resolution. The RAM gets a boost of 3GB and will also come with 16GB of storage space. The camera will be a little better as well, with the rear sensor being a 13MP one and a 5MP one on the front. The battery will get the biggest change, with the E4 sporting a massive 5,000mAh battery. Like the E4, it will also come in different SoC configurations, one with the Snapdragon 427 and one with the MediaTek MT6737. Compared to the E4’s standard speakers, the E4 Plus gets Dolby Atmos dual microphones.

Pricing and availability

Both phones will come with fingerprint sensors on the front of the phone, 3.5mm headphone jacks and dual SIM capabilities. Even NFC will be on the spec-sheet. Taking on the long-standing tradition of Motorola’s budget line, this generation will also be as bang for buck as the last few iterations were. Both phones will also come with Motorola’s fast charging technology and will also feature front-facing LED flash for the selfie cameras as well. The phones will be available in the color options of Iron Gray and Fine Gold. The Moto E4 will be priced at $129.99 and the Moto E4 Plus will start at $179.99. With so much offering at such little price, these phones will be the defining budget handsets of 2017.
