Microsoft’s anticipated RPG Scalebound gets the axe

One of Microsoft’s most anticipated releases for 2017’s gaming line-up – Scalebound, just got the boot, after being delayed for release in 2016, with first gameplay footage being showcased back in 2014.

There hasn’t been a clear reason as to why they decided to cancel the release of the game, but Microsoft simply took the decision to cut production on the RPG and instead said they’ll be focusing on bringing out games like Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves and others as the year progresses.

PlatinumGames, the studio behind the project, which is known for Bayonetta, said it was very sorry for cancelling the game, but promises there will be more games to look forward to. According to Digital Trends, Game designer Hideki Kamiya was reported to have had some mental issues, to which he denied outright, saying that he couldn’t have possibly had any issues as mentioned during the development of the game.

The game, made as outlandish as possible by the studio, was first unveiled at E3 in 2014 in a report by PC Magazine. It was in the works during 2006, but was set aside for Bayonetta. It finally reached production in 2013. The game, which looks a lot like a cross between Devil May Cry and Monster Hunters, follows the adventures of the protagonist Drew, who is bound to a dragon and they share the same life. It’s got some stylish combat scenes and features massive monsters to be dealt with.

The player could also take control of the dragon, allowing them to switch between third-person and first-person mode. The game didn’t yet have an established storyline, but having been prepared for 10 years in development, just to be shot down at the last leg makes it a pretty brutal proposition.

All that we know is that it’s cancelled, but just not why. We probably won’t be seeing any more Scalebound.
