Mi Notebook Air updated with new Kaby Lake CPUs, GPU and fingerprint sensor

Xiaomi’s runaway success the Mi Notebook Air launched last year is set to receive a new update, which includes a fingerprint scanner, and more powerful internals, keeping with the company’s penchant for value and convenience as part of the package.

The new Mi Notebook Air 13 will feature a 13.3-inch screen with the 7th generation of Intel processors, with the high-end i7 CPUs clocked at 3.0GHz being included in the package as well. Overall, the company claims that a performance increase of 10 percent over the last year’s iteration can be noticed. There is also another configuration which will be available, packed with the latest Core i5 chipset as well. Other specifications of the Notebook include 8GB of DDR4 RAM and 256GB of internal storage in the form of PCIe SSD.

According to Android Headlines, the screen featured on the new Notebook will be a 1080p screen. The Notebook will also feature proprietary AKG speakers for effective music listening, which was also included in last year’s offering. This time around Xiaomi is also offering a completely new GPU on the offering compared to last year, with the inclusion of 2GB of NVIDIA’s GeForce MX150, making the Notebook considerably more powerful for graphic intensive applications. On the outside, the Notebook will come only in the Silver colour trim, and will offer a USB Type-C port along with an HDMI port.

On pricing, speculations are rife that the new Notebook will cost $737 for the Intel Core i5 variant which will come with 128GB storage. The 265GB variant will come at the cost of $810. There has not been any information regarding the pricing of the Core i7 variant of the Notebooks, but it should other fall under the $1000 mark or so when it does eventually release. The Notebooks are going to be sold only in China for now and sale of the devices will go on sale on June 18 at 12PM on Xiaomi’s website. While it has not been revealed whether the Notebook will be made available outside of the website, Chinese resellers will be stocking their inventory with the models in the near future.

With a better GPU that is three times more powerful than the NVIDIA 940MX, a fingerprint scanner and updated processing power, the new Mi Notebook will turn out to be another good seller for the company. It is about time that Xiaomi made the Notebook available to worldwide markets as well and give the MacBook a run for its money.
