LG to invest in robotics for cutting-edge home appliances

LG is preparing for the future by investing in artificial intelligence and robotics technology, joining the likes of Samsung, Google and Xiaomi.

Hi-tech home appliances such as refrigerators, washers and air conditioners would be soon introduced in the smart home sector.

Jo Seong-jin, LG’s home appliance president, at a press conference in Berlin, said the company’s plan is to unveil new robotic products by combining hardware, artificial intelligence, and contents technology.

Speaking at the sidelines of IFA 2016, Seong-jin further said it was also reviewing new businesses that use autonomous driving technology and robotic platforms.

Earlier in July, LG had announced plans to enter the enterprise robotics market. The electronics giant is developing automated guide robots using deep learning technology for use at Incheon International Airport.
