The Gear Fit 2 Pro goes official before the Note 8 launch

Samsung is inches closer towards launching the new Galaxy Note 8 and just before the big day, the company has quietly launched the successor to its Gear Fit series, with the Fit 2 Pro – a noticeable improvement over the Gear Fit 2, which was capable of rivalling in FitBit’s offerings.

The wearable has already been made available in showing on the company’s Spanish and Malaysian websites, with the promotional material put up for customers to see. Before today, Samsung had not earlier made any announcement regarding the device, with only speculations floating about regarding the arrival of the new Fit 2 Pro. The new device now offers better-looking straps than its previous iteration along with better internals. The overall look of the body, however, still retains its charm from the Fit 2.

Launch of the Fit 2 Pro could have been accidental, as it should have been released along with the Note 8 at Samsung’s Unpacked event. Nevertheless, the device will be an offering that fans will appreciate, with water resistance of up to 50 metres or 164 feet. The company will also be equipping the wearable with the new Speedo app for allowing users to track their swimming exercise.

Not only does the strap look better this time around, but is also more functional as it comes with a new buckle that will help fasten device to the user’s hand more securely while doing laps around the pool. Users will also be able to download more watch-faces from the Galaxy App Store. The screen on the watch will also feature the same curved AMOLED screen as last time, along with integrated GPS for tracking routines. The battery pack is promised to provide three to four days of battery life.

As per GSM Arena’s report, the display will still be a 1.5-inch 216×432 pixel resolution screen and will also feature Tizen OS. The Fit 2 Pro will automatically detect the kind of activity that the user will be doing and keep tracking it, which could be a convenient way for users who are constantly active, without needing to manually activate each tracking app. While the device is said to officially be unveiled at Galaxy Note 8 event later in the day, the device’s pricing and availability is still in question. Reports speculate that device will cost around $199.99.
