Galaxy Note 8 Rumor: Headphone jack and same fingerprint sensor as S8

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is shaping up to be a mixed bag of goodies, with some good news and some not-so-good news. But fans and buyers alike should be very pleased with the end product nevertheless as it will be the Note 8 that many have been waiting for.

First, the good news. According to latest reports, Samsung is said to be retaining the headphone jack on the Note 8, deviating from the road that some Android manufacturers and the iPhone have taken. This claim is supported by a leaked case of the Note 8 that surfaced on Twitter that showed there to be a special cut out that supports the headphone jack.

Now for the bad news. The new Galaxy Note 8 will supposedly feature the same fingerprint scanner as seen on the Galaxy S8 and that means it will be placed on the same inconvenient location on the back of the phone, next to the camera. A render of the phone by Slickwraps CEO Jonathan Endicott shows that the fingerprint sensor is indeed going to be positioned similarly as it was in the S8. While there were rumors that the Note 8 might be revising the design on the rear for this particular gripe made by users, it seems that the company has finally decided to stick to the original design.

Case manufacturer Olixar had also had an image of their Galaxy Note 8 protection case leaked, which further shows the rear of the phone’s camera(s) with the fingerprint sensor unfortunately placed on the side. Being similar to the Galaxy S8, the rounded corners on the edges of the display are also said to make a return here as well. The dual camera setup on the back is said to be composed of two 12MP sensors with optical image stabilization made available for each lens. As far as specifications go, the Note 8 will come with the Snapdragon 835 chipset or the Exynos 8895 depending on the region it is being sold and powering it will be an underwhelming 3,300mAh. Although the capacity does seem low, it is understandable why Samsung would go with a smaller battery as it would increase the stability of the phone.

The Note 8 is expected to be a little bigger in size, to the Galaxy S8+, which is already considered to be one of the largest phones in the market right now. Of course, the new Galaxy Note 8 will be a lot more expensive than its predecessor, with predicted pricing coming in at $1,000. The iPhone as well, will be around the same price, but without the headphone jack.
