The future of home robotics: Kuri can now recognize pets

US-based Mayfield Robotics’ creation has come up with a few ground-breaking upgrades for its home robot Kuri. The latest is that this insanely cute companion robot can now recognize pets and stream in full HD.

The visual intelligence system has been upgraded to identify pets, dogs and cats included.  This is an add-on to its ability to recognize humans. It will now be able to sufficiently differentiate between animals and humans.  It implies that it can comprehend when it’s looking at a pet, and that data can have distinctive results than if it were seeing a human.

This home bot now flaunts a better vision system. It has integrated a full HD (1080p) camera with the rest of its system. The upgraded virtual eye can now stream live in full HD, capture images, and video record while interacting with the family members.

Kuri’s drive train has also gone through significant upgrades for better manoeuvrability. It now uses a pair of powerful drive belts as opposed to the traditional drive wheels. These belt treads provide agility and precision, Kuri’s movements are now quieter and smoother enabling her to glide over most rugs and thresholds with ease.

Mayfield Robotics is an independent subsidiary of Bosch and is fully engaged in the development of smart home robotics.  They unveiled Kuri earlier this year at the International Consumer Electronics show. The home bot was designed to help enhance life at home; all its features and functions enable it to provide its owner with a holistic AI experience.

Priced at $699, Kuri stands 20-inch tall and 12-inch wide. Apart from the aforesaid functions Kuri also has a capacitive touch sensor, microphone, speakers and built-in LED to show changes in mood. Unlike other robots, Kuri is responsive and interactive. It is designed to replicate human-like emotions. The future is artificial and intelligent.
