British TV streaming service BritBox launches in US

BritBox, a new video streaming service by BBC World and ITV, has launched in the US.

The service will work on web, Apple TV, iPhone, iPad and Android devices. There are more than 2,000 hours of programming available for users at launch. The vast catalog includes Cold Feet, Silent Witness, Inspector Morse, Fawlty Towers and Absolutely Fabulous.

There is a 7 day free trial, after which it will cost $6.99 a month. It is slightly cheaper than the existing Netflix and Hulu’s offerings at $7.99. Not to forget the biggest competitor, Amazon Prime, which starts at $8.99 a month.

BritBox might be a TV streaming alternative for those exclusively looking for programs made for UK audiences. You can browse shows by genre, through curated categories or through the ‘Our Favourites’ section for some suggested playlists.

You also have a ‘Now’ category that includes British soaps and other programs, such as EastEnders and Emmerdale. These programs will be made available just a day after their broadcast in the UK.
