Today, the new BlackBerry Motion was officially unveiled to the public by TCL. The new flagship by BlackBerry is all-touchscreen and is exactly how the earlier leaks by Evan Blass looked. The phone will be made available in Gulf before everyone else gets to see it, but considering that it will be a take on the KeyOne, we should expect many of its great similarities. Here are the top five features of the new keyboard-less smartphone by BlackBerry.
Build
The Motion comes with an aluminium frame with a soft back finish. There are capacitive keys with a physical home button below the display. One of the most striking features of the phone is the uncharacteristic absence of a keyboard from a BlackBerry mobile phone. While there have been mobiles that the company has introduced in the past that came without physical keyboards, the Motion is a keyboard-less version of the KeyOne. A perk here, is that the phone water-proof, being IP67 water-resistant.
Security
The Motion is still a BlackBerry device, despite having Android software and will feature BlackBerry’s true and tested security features for business purposes. It comes packed with encryption-backed privacy and applications. While it comes with Android Nougat 7.1 out of the box, it is expected to receive the Android Oreo update soon.
Specifications
The mid-range device features the Snapdragon 625 SoC paired with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The display on the phone is a 5.5-inch 1080p panel with a diamond coating that the claims is 25 percent stronger than Gorilla Glass. One of the best features of the device is the massive 4,000mAh battery that will promise over a day’s charge easily. It is the largest battery on a BlackBerry yet. The Motion comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack along with USB Type-C with support for Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0.
Optics
Just like the KeyOne, BlackBerry has the same 12MP camera, and while it is not as impressive as the Galaxy S8 or the iPhone 8’s, the quality is good enough for a mid-range offering. Users will be able to take advantage of the default camera app to store images in a safe place, that will be accessible through a fingerprint or passcode. Even documents can be locked up along with images.
Price and Availability
The phone will launch by the end of October in the Middle East, and will be priced at $460. While there has not been any news about a global release, it is expected to release in the UK, US and Australia later on, perhaps before the end of this year.
