Asus has just released a new smartphone under the ZenFone 4 series, called the ZenFone 4 Max. The budget-oriented handset will be the latest smartphone from Asus to hit USA and Canada, and while it does not offer any exemplary specifications, it does deliver on its promise of delivering max battery life.
The phone will feature a modest set of internals, including the Snapdragon 430 Octa-core CPU, a 5.5-inch display with an HD resolution and dual SIM support. There is also 3GB of RAM supported by an internal storage of 32GB which can further be expanded. The smartphone is meant for customers who would like a cheap and reliable handset but will deliver in terms of durability as the phone comes with a massive 5,000mAh battery unit and is said to provide up to 22 hours of video playback or up to 26 hours of Wi-Fi browsing through the web. With such modest specs to boot, the battery life on the phone will easily manage up to two days of usage on a single charge.
Apart from the impressive battery unit, another aspect of the phone that will be a pleasant surprise for buyers will be the optics. It features a dual lens primary camera on the back, with a 13MP main camera and a secondary wide-angle lens that can support up to 120 degrees field of view. There is also support for phase detection. Among the variety of camera modes are Auto, Pro, Beauty, Super Resolution, Panorama, GIF animation as well as time lapse. Most interestingly, the Super Resolution mode of the camera will take multiple shots of the same image and then combines them into a 52MP single image with great detail. Not only does the phone offer power to run, but it can also be used as power-bank as well. It can supply up to 5V at 1.1A for charging attached devices.
The phone will be available in the United States through the Asus Store, Amazon, Abt, Best Buy, B&H as well as Newegg for just $199. In Canada, it will cost CAD $299. For the price, buyers will not only get decent optics, a large screen and a large battery, but will also get an aluminium body with diamond cut edges as a 2.5D contoured display glass. There is also a promised Oreo update, which should be enough to satiate the needs of the anyone looking for an entry-level smartphone.
