Apple iPhone 9 rumors: Larger OLED displays, 5.28-inch and 6.46-inch models

Whether the iPhone 8 will come as per rumors suggested or not is yet to be seen. Impatient fans however, have moved on and have already started speculating about the iPhone 9, thanks to a report from The Bell, which suggests some radical changes coming to the newest iteration of the iPhone that will come after the current newest iteration.

The phone is said to come in 5.28-inch and 6.46-inch models and both will feature OLED displays which are supposedly going to be supplied by Samsung Display, which is said to be a sub-division of Samsung Electronics. Already, Samsung is supplying 80 million display units in OLED to Apple for one of the three new Apple iPhones releasing this year, most probably for the iPhone 8, so it would be fair to assume that they would do so for the next year as well. It seems that Samsung has already signed a deal with iPhone to supply a whopping 180 million units for next year’s model.

Reports also suggest that the OLED displays made by Samsung would probably be of the curved type for the next year’s iPhone. Considering Apple could have done it this year as well, sources claim that the company did not go for the decision since curved displays are more difficult to adapt to the design and shortages would occur. But the possibility of the iPhone 9 having a curved display seems more likely now.

According to Digit, the new iPhone 8 releasing this year will cost well over $1000 and is touted to have 3D sensing cameras, better water-proofing as well as a stainless steel and glass combination body. The devices availability has already caused issues in productivity and has been delayed for a few months. Apple will probably be readier next time around when the company releases the iPhone 9. We can expect numerous features of the iPhone 8 to carry forward most of its features towards the iPhone 9, including a near bezel-less design on the front and a bigger display. All this, while maintaining the same relative footprint of the device.

Already the rumors of the iPhone 8 have not yet been confirmed yet, so, the speculation surrounding the iPhone 9 should be taken with a pinch of salt. It is not surprising to hear that Apple is already working on their next flagship since even Samsung has started on theirs.
