The iPhone X’s arrival today has opened a new chapter for Apple as a company, especially in the smartphone space. While not being too different on the inside from the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, some of the best of Apple’s ingenuity and genius is at work only on the iPhone X. The most undeniable change in the anniversary edition of the iPhone is the screen. Apple’s new screen is now called the Super Retina Display and will be different from what will be present on the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus models. It will also pack the highest screen resolution on an iPhone ever, at 2436×1125 pixels. It is also the largest iPhone display to date at 5.8-inches. As the speculations had first confirmed, there is a slit at the top of the display to make room for a bevy of sensors that also includes the front camera the edges are rounded as well. The OLED display of the new iPhone X also is HDR compatible with a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. In addition, the screen also produces images under the P3 sRGB gamut, showing exactly how the director or the designer of the image intended for it to be.

Face ID
Apple is doing away with Touch ID for Face ID this time around, which is a new approach for unlocking the phone. In order to set up the feature, Apple uses aa TrueDepth camera sensor, along with two other ones such as the flood illuminator and the dot projector to closely form dots that track the face of the user and then use that image map as the key identifier in unlocking the phone. The feature will work even if the user changes their appearance. While most buyers may not be sold on the idea, the concept is new and will work only when the user is paying attention to the front of the phone.

The new dual camera module on the iPhone X consists of a 12MP primary lens at f/1.8 aperture and a telephoto lens with an aperture of f/2.4. Both cameras on the rear have optical stabilization and now offer an even better portrait mode experience that can now offer better lighting conditions to suit the scene. There are different lighting modes on offer than can manipulate the natural light around the subject and there are also improvements on the offering for better natural background blurring for depth of field. One of the more impressive features in the lighting options is the contour light option that makes the subject the only focused part of the image while the background remains completely dark. The design of the iPhone X also extends up to the software, and offers unique gesture-based inputs by the user in order to function, such as swiping up to return to the home section and swiping and holding for multi-tasking previews. Since Apple has removed a physical home button for the iPhone now, users will be looking to make the most the new gesture input and the dynamic applied to upper lip of the smartphone to reach the quick controls panel. A11 Bionic processor

The CPU consists of six cores with 4.3 billion transistors with four cores for efficiency and two for performance. All six can also work together for a power boost when needed. There is a separate neural unit in the CPU now, that is exclusively meant for machine learning and helps the phone to learn from observation. This will save time in recognising faces, places, images and objects in an image and is the tech behind the new Animoji and Face ID features that are exclusive to the iPhone X, along with Augmented Reality for applications and games.
