Mate 10’s Kirin 970 chipset with integrated AI processor better than iPhone’s?

Huawei is confident about its upcoming smartphones set to rival the flagships of the year, most importantly, the upcoming iPhones that are set to arrive next week. Huawei has openly proclaimed that its newest chips will be more powerful than the upcoming iPhones which will release a month from now.

That is a pretty tall claim that Huawei is making as Apple’s new A11 chips that are said to outperform the iPad Pro devices were released earlier in the year. The A10 chips that were released last year already outperform all the latest 10nm chips that are featured on Android flagships. Huawei is confident that the chips that will be made available in the Mate 10 and the Mate 10 Pro smartphones that will be released next month will be better than Apple’s latest iPhones. The Kirin 970 that is said to debut along with those two phones is said to be Huawei’s best chip.

The Kirin 970 chipset will feature its own AI processing capabilities, making it the first chipset to have its own Neural Processing Unit in smartphones. Other smartphones need to utilize the cloud to take on AI abilities, but the Kirin 970 will be able to do all that processing on-board the device instead, making the process faster. Earlier in July, Huawei promised that the Mate 10 would last longer, charge faster and take better pictures than the new iPhone. The Kirin 970 also promises 50 percent more battery life than the competition. The Mate 10 is said to also feature Alexa on-board, making it one the few phones currently available to run more than one AI on a handset.

Huawei Mate 10 and the Mate 10 Pro will be launched on October 16 at an event in Munich. The phone will also feature minimal bezels on its display. The built-in AI processor on the chip is able to make better photos that can identify objects and adjust the settings suitably. The chip is said to feature four cores clocked at 2.40GHz four other cores clocked at 1.80GHz. The chip will be advantageous for applications such as real-time translation, augmented reality, voice commands and other features. While the competition is still currently struggling to keep up with the 2016 iPhone chipsets, Huawei’s new Kirin 970 will have to meet the expectations if it will be taken seriously in the smartphone segment. Hopefully, it will be the first Android chipset to over-take the iPhone’s.
